Why does this Google AdSense tutorial bother you with details about HTML codes and title-tags? For one reason only: Your title matters!
Q: The title... is that the same as the headline?
A: No, not in this case. There's a huge difference, and it's important that you know about it.
The title is invisible to the human eye, when they look at your home page. If you look closer, though, you are able to see it on the upper bar of your browser. This bar is called the title bar.
A search engine will see your title clearly, and this is why it's of utmost importance. A title with the correct keywords in it will mean that you get better indexed in the search engine, and that Google will be able to serve you relevant ads for your site.
Q: Where can I see my title?
A: You have to take a look inside the HTML code of your home page.
This code consists of two main parts, which are the head and the body.
Everything inside the body can be seen in a browser. This is where you put text, images, headlines, music, colours... Everything you want to show your visitors.
Inside the head, you have information for the search engines and browsers. This information isn't shown directly in the browser, but it will influence what you see.
This is the area where you keep information about the language of your site, the keywords, and the title.
Q: How do I add a title?
A: If your site is made by pure HTML, you should add the title tags inside your head-area.
However, if you're using a blog like WordPress, I recommend that you install a SEO friendly plugin, which will help you create unique titles for each page. Most people seem to use 'All in One SEO', and that has also been my choice. It's free to use in its basic version.
Q: Why do I have to have a unique title on every page?
A: The title is one of the means the search engines use to define what kind of site you have. So your title has a direct influence on how well your site is ranking. It also has a strong impact on the ads, Google will serve you. And the more relevant those adverts are, the more clicks you can expect to get, and the more money you'll make.
